I recently read a statistic that gave me serious pause. According to whoever compiled the numbers there is a majority of 'Christians' who choose not to vote in presidential elections. I assume this can be attributed to many reasons but the primary one is that many Christians see themselves as being exempt from the worldliness of politics.
This set me on a deep dive (shocking I know) and I did find commentaries by Christians who are sounding the alarm that maybe this election is different to the point of teetering on the possibility of being our last. This being a call to arms and action.
One well-written article I read by Christian Schube pointed to pastors taking the middle road and counseling their parishioners to just pray. Pray for God to handle the situation.
Then I read some of the comments and realized there is a huge disconnect that separates the state of being human smart and being spiritually wise.
I admit I pray all the time for Divine Intervention but it doesn't end there. I know for sure God isn't a genie waiting to fulfill our wishes. He challenges us to participate, to be His will by our choices and actions.
This jarred a memory for me of a modern parable, I have no idea where it came from.
There was a huge storm coming. A man and his wife ignored the calls to evacuate because they were devoted Christians who prayed fervently for protection.
As the storm increased and the waters began to fill their house, they fled to the upstairs. It wasn't long before they were climbing up into the attic. They sat in the dark and prayed to be rescued.
When the waters began to rise into the attic the man broke a hole into the roof and they climbed out and hung on as the rains and wind threatened to wash them away. They prayed more fervently.
The winds calmed down but they were still stranded on the roof. Suddenly an old man in a boat appeared and called out to them that he was there to rescue them. They waved him off and said, "Thanks but God will rescue us!" The confused old man floated away.
Then a helicopter came and hovered over them. The rescuer tossed out a rope and told them to climb up. The man shouted back, over the sound of the rotor blades, "Thank you, but we are waiting on God to rescue us!" The rescuers left to find other stranded souls.
You might want to add your own ending to this story. Maybe God sent angels down and scooped up the couple. Or maybe they succumbed to the elements and their 'rescue' was from this mortal coil. Regardless how you wish to end this, you cannot deny that God does work in mysterious ways and when we ask for help we don't get to determine what the help looks like.
I am a Christian and I have voted in every election since 1968. I haven't always liked the options but I am also an American who takes the God given right to vote seriously and I trust that God knows better than I do who I should vote for so I listen, obey and trust He will guide my hand.
That's what is known as FAITH IN ACTION.
I've said before I believe the prophecies of Revelation have been unfolding for 2000 years. We have been on the brink of the final/final days numerous times. But God owns time so He decides. When His people step up, willing to do and be, our incomprehensibly patient Father gives us a reprieve.
We can choose to be abstaining by claiming righteous conscientious objection or we can be a little David and toss a stone at Goliath.
If this stirs your spirit, pass this on to whomever you think will listen.
Thanks for sharing this.
